ABOUT HIPS


HIPS is a collaboration between Drew Denny and Christina Gaillard. The multi-instrumentalists played in a handful of bands together throughout the 2010s and formed HIPS as an all-female vehicle with an emphasis on innovative dance beats, heavy bass and lush vocal harmonies. Gaillard produces all tracks, with Denny writing lyrics and melodies.

Drew Denny is a writer and director whose film Momster premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019 and whose documentary Queer Habits is being adapted for narrative television. She performs as a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with HIPS.

Kaitlin Prest is an audio artist, podcast creator and the director of Mermaid Palace. She specializes in creating intimate audio universes that tell deep truths in documentaries, fiction and real life.

RIDER ALSOP

Producer/Sound Designer


Rider is an award-winning radio producer and sound designer. A long-time collaborator with The Heart, Radiotopia's innovative podcast about sex and power, she's helped produce and develop shows for TED, Red Bull's Music Academy, NPR, Refinery29, PRX, WQXR and the Omidayar Network. In 2019, she produced Hitch, an experimental podcast blending truth and fiction for You42 in addition to producing, sound designing and voicing a few characters for Asking For It.

CHRISTINA GAILLARD Performer/Composer


Christina is a musician, producer and composer who lives in Los Angeles and Mexico City. She has scored a variety of film and television projects, including recent documentaries for VICE, The Washington Post and 2018’s Noticias de Pluton, which screened at multiple international film festivals including Cannes. Her music has been featured on Bravo, MTV and HBO. She has produced and co-produced numerous albums, including 2014's critically acclaimed Sundowner, by HT Heartache; 2012's Sun of May, by Argentine; and a 2019 self-titled album by Crown Plaza.

HARRY KNAZAN

Audio Engineer/Sound Designer


Harry Knazan is a Toronto-based composer, sound designer, and audio engineer. Harry has over 10 years of experience working in the music and post audio industries. He has worked on national and international advertising campaigns for the past 8 years. In addition, he has worked on projects that have been recognized by the Polaris Prize (Lido Pimienta), the Hot Docs International Film Festival (Unarmed Verses), the BET awards (Drake, God’s Plan), and The Juno Awards (A Tribe Called Red).

MEL SHIMKOVITZ

Performer (Taylor)


Mel is a writer, director, performer and visual artist splitting time between Los Angeles and mile marker 1, New Mexico. Mel’s been seen as an actor on Amazon's Transparent, HBO’s High Maintenance and dozens of short films, web series and Instagram Stories. As a writer, Shimkovitz has penned episodes for Showtime’s SMILF and HBO's High Maintenance.



PHOEBE UNTER

Associate Producer


Phoebe makes audio and visual art interrogating things people avoid talking about. She is co-producer of The (new) Heart, and co-host & co-producer of bitchface. Phoebe sometimes holds the mic while Kaitlin Prest pretends to have sex, and did a stint as producer & office eccentric at the public radio show Marketplace. She records and archives oral histories with tenants for The Anti-Eviction Mapping Project.

KIMMY ROBERTSON

Performer (Dolly)


Kimmy Robertson began her career as a ballet dancer, but her distinctive sense of humor and quirky style brought her to the attention of an agent who happened to work in the same office as her ballet company. After at first being unsure about becoming an actor, Kimmy was then hired for the first role she auditioned for in the teen comedy The Last American Virgin. She then returned to ballet but appeared in the occasional film such as Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and My Mom's a Werewolf before being cast as the Sheriff's ditsy secretary, Lucy, in the groundbreaking TV series, Twin Peaks. She went on to work on such films as Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Speed 2: Cruise Control and Stuart Little. She recently reprised her role as Lucy in Twin Peaks: The Return for Showtime.

MEGAN AUSTER-ROSEN
